What do you like most about being a student-athlete at MSA?
The green and quiet environment around campus is incredibly awesome for any sports especially for cycling. We gave endless roads for training. On campus, I love hanging out with my friends outside after dinner until sunset.
What is your favorite class at MSA and what do you like about it?
The favorite part of class at MSA is more flexibility during day to pursue academic interests. Also, teachers understand cycling and the time required to be successful in the sport. With that, I love my independent study class, which focuses on building and running a social media marketing company. The best part of this class is working with Coach Peter who has experienced for many fields of marketing, design, and website coding. I learn from him everyday.
What is your favorite race of the year and why?
The best race of 2022 was definitely Vally of Sun Stage Race in Arizona. It was my first-ever podium on the road. It was incredibly rewarding because I could see my progress from my first year of doing a stage race when I was sophomore. Back then, I could not finish a stage race, and by my senior year, I was winning stages. My progression with MSA has been amazing.
What is your favorite training ride/route and why?
I think the route I love the best around school is the Super Afton Loop. It is a pretty long climbing without traffic signs, and the view from the Blue Ridge Parkway is dreamy.
What are your pre-race rituals/routines?
I love spending time blasting music with AirPods and stretching and massaging my legs with Bath and Body Works body cream before going to bed.
List 3 songs on your pre-race playlist:
“Dream Dream Dream” by Madeon
“Real Gone” by Shery Crow
“Crowds Control” by Dimitri Vegas
Any other interesting things about you that you’d like to share?
As an international of student who came Miller School from Japan without parents or strong English skills, I was struggled a lot at first. It totally worth it to be with top-level cyclist from all over the world and to progress as a student and athlete.
